I think this qualifies as mutiny. <wink> I'll take away his ECULAUGH
electronic pencil. Sorry about that post in ECULAUGH folks.

Re: #6156 from TBROBB on Oct. 23, 1998

Greetings! Thanks for offering your note to ECULAUGH
Where GOOD CLEAN RELIGIOUS HUMOR is published on the WORLD WIDE WEB.

I am JOHN RAMSEY, the current moderator of ECULAUGH. It is my turn to
keep ECULAUGH to its narrow purpose of publishing Good, Clean, Religious,
Humor. This purpose was established years ago and upheld by a series of
volunteer moderators. (For more information about ECULAUGH, see end)

I regret I cannot personally reply to ECULAUGH members,
all 1,000-2,000 of them. Do NOT send a reply to my
personal inbox. I maintain the meeting ECULAUGH COMMENTS
for replies and discussion of ECULAUGH. Choose that
     destination instead.

I decided that this note was more a comment about humor than
Good & Clean & Religious & Humor. (a subjective decision I realize,
for example: I consider small additions or alternatives to posted humor
comments not humor, as well as most stories that begin "This really
happened..." which usually are only humorous to the people involved at the
time.)

ECULAUGH COMMENTS welcomes comments about ECULAUGH.

A personal note sent directly to the author of a note in ECULAUGH is often
an option for a comment, if you meant to do this and just slipped, don't
worry, everyone has done it. Convene for DOS offers F9 for replies to
prevent "automatic" replies of F8.

Do NOT reply directly to this note. Any replies sent to this note (JOHN
RAMSEY) usually are quoted and replied to in the public meeting ECULAUGH
COMMENTS. Replies are welcome there = NOT = to my personal inbox.
Do = NOT = quote this entire note in your reply.

Hard to top "Holy Spigot" in film Four Weddings and a Funeral. Ponder the
various images of the term "spigot" and it might work into a bit of
theological fun by definition.

Re: #6160 from TBROBB on Oct. 24, 1998

Greetings! Here is your note back. It is welcome in ECULAUGH COMMENTS not
in ECULAUGH. I don't delete notes, I remove and return them. Some folks
value their notes and don't keep copies. My practice of returning
them with explanation allows folks to re-edit them for ECULAUGH or
repost them elsewhere. It is troublesome, but I believe a responsible,
helpful and respectful way of moderating ECULAUGH even though some
experience it as patronizing. (Suggestions on less patronizing phrases,
words, etc. are welcome in ECULAUGH COMMENTS.)

Your note has already been quoted in ECULAUGH COMMENTS by another user.
Don't know why you write ECUNET can't find it. (Don't exactly know
what you mean by that.) I'll send you another invite.

I've updated the note so it refers to CHRISTY RAMSEY instead of JOHN
RAMSEY. Sorry if that was confusing.

I've removed your writing privilages in ECULAUGH. You can still read
ECULAUGH if you care to, but your posts to ECULAUGH will be rejected.

If you wish write access to ECULAUGH, post a note to me, CHRISTY RAMSEY, or
to the ECULAUGH COMMENTS meeting saying you will observe the boundaries of
the meeting and I'll turn it back on.

I expect members to do their own editing and not just dump stuff in
ECULAUGH and expect me to sort it out by "my" criteria (its not my
criteria, I'm just on duty right now). Thankfully, 99% of the members do
this. If you choose not to be that responsibile for your posts, that's
fine; there are meetings other than ECULAUGH to post in.

This is also sent to ECULAUGH COMMENTS. Any reply to CHRISTY RAMSEY will be
sent to ECULAUGH COMMENTS as well. Comments about ECULAUGH are always
welcome in ECULAUGH COMMENTS.

Arrgh. 11 people (so far) have written "Me too!" notes after a person
advertised the availability of silly Lutheran songs. If just 10% asked in
the meeting for the songs, that would be 100 notes. (Last I checked,
ECULAUGH had over a 1,000 members. I need to check again.)

By the way of a reminder?! ECULAUGH is shut off from the Internet to stop
the spammers and other abusers. In other words, one cannot email ECULAUGH.
The form on the web page sends submissions to a hidden ECUNET meeting where
I review and at times, redirect them to ECULAUGH.

Re: #2424 from PETER SHULTS on Oct. 28, 1998

I'm glad someone FINALLY and WISELY responded to the "silly songs" query
via comments, not Eculaugh proper. I was frustrated by having to read all
those, "me, too!" responses, but I know that they can't all be deleted
right away, nor can the original note, before SOMEONE reads it. And I know
that SOMEONE (any given number of SOMEONEs) always either (a) disregards
the rules of the meeting or (b) doesn't read the rules at all. Therefore
these things will happen much to our dismay.

But I find myself wishing the person had said, "Please send a note to my
inbox if you'd like a copy of the 'silly songs.' " Better yet, I wish
they'd not sent the note to ECULAUGH but to another place where things are
more free-form.

Just had to get this off my (small) chest. <G>

Paralleling my previous post, if I understand it correctly no one had to
send their e-mail addresses to ECULAUGH in order to get a copy of "Silly
Songs." They could have sent the addresses to her personal inbox which
would have been, for internet e-mailers, <s_jeanne_giles@ecunet.org>.

Now, how about silly songs for Presbyterians? <G>

Why don't people simply send their request directly to the one who is
offering, instead of ECULAUGH or ECULAUGH COMMENTS?

My wife is a Lutheran -- that's all the silly Lutheran I can handle. <G>

How about some specifics of where you are stuck?

Believe it or not, I did my best the first time around. I didn't
write you a personal note just to confuse you with nonsense.

What don't you understand? What have you tried?

Here is how I see it:

    A. Your daughter can email to Internet address
    B. Your internet address is BONNIE.JEAN.ANDERSON@ecunet.org
    C. Your daughter can email you the songs at the above address
    D. You can post the songs to ECULAUGH.

Where am I lost or losing you? Did you not know about b. perhaps?

Might want to review note #1 of FAQ ECULAUGH to help decide if the
songs are GOOD CLEAN RELIGIOUS HUMOR.

Sigh, I just got notes about my patronizing attitude. Then I get a note
that my instructions don't make sense. Hard to hit the right level. Betten
patronizing and unclear.

Just checked the roster. Wow. Even though PresbyNet/EcuNet membership has
remained just about even ECULAUGH seems to have grown. I thought it was
just over 1,000 members last year....

    2166 - Members of ECULAUGH
138 - Members of ECULAUGH COMMENTS

Seems a lot of folks can do without the comments...which is the reason
comments are in this meeting instead of the main ECULAUGH meeting.

Just about 1% of the folks (so far) are "ME TOO!" people. Pretty darn good.
Close to 99% of ECULAUGH members have resisted putting personal

PLEASE SEND ME THE SILLY SONGS TOO

notes even though it is easy to do. Of course some didn't get a chance to
see the triggering note before I removed and returned it. I'll credit their
restraint anyway. <wink>

Accidently posted in ECULAUGH. <blush>

ECULAUGH COMMENTS is in the topic line of ECULAUGH which appears with every
