FAQs

Ecunet's e-mail service

Members must have mail software installed to use these instructions.  Ecunet recommends Outlook Express because it is free and usually already installed on most computers.  Once installed, Ecunet recommends that members use IMAP settings with authenticated SMTP to participate in Ecunet.

Ecunet's e-mail service allows you to use e-mail to participate in Ecunet meetings and make special e-mail requests from the Ecunet conferencing system.

Before using the E-mail Request Service, be sure that you have your email
address listed in your Ecunet Member Profile.  To view or change your profile please go to http://www.ecunet.org/conference and login with your Inbox name and password, then click the Edit preferences text under the  My Profile option on the left-hand navigation bar.

Correctly sending an e-mail message to a meeting
To send a note directly to a meeting to which you are joined, you may address an e-mail message in the following way: take the name of the meeting, replace any spaces with underscores, and add .topic@ecunet.org.  For example, to send a note to the meeting "Stop Spam," send an e-mail message to stop_spam.topic@ecunet.org

Additional information on setting up Ecunet e-mail is available online:

The E-mail Request Service

To use the mailrequests service, send e-mail to mailrequests@ecunet.org with one of the following commands in the subject line of your note: Unjoin, Join, Oldnotes, or Help.

Unjoin
To unjoin a meeting using the mail interface, send a note to
mailrequests@ecunet.org with the command 'unjoin' (without the quotes) in
the subject line of your message.  In the body of the message, type the name
of the meeting you would like to unjoin.  You will receive a confirmation that you were unjoined from the meeting.  To unjoin multiple meetings, please put each meeting name on a separate line.

Example:
ecunet
public
ecunet chat

This example would unjoin you from the meetings ECUNET, PUBLIC, and
ECUNET CHAT.

Join
To join a meeting using the mail interface, send a note to
mailrequests@ecunet.org with the command 'join' (without the quotes) in the
subject line of your message.  In the body of your message, type the name of
the meeting you would like to join.  You will receive a confirmation note indicating that you were joined to each meeting as well as the invitation and three most recent notes from the meeting.  To join multiple meetings, please put each meeting name on a separate line.

Example:
ecunet
bulletins
ecunet chat

This example would join you to the meetings ECUNET, BULLETINS, and ECUNET CHAT, and retrieve a copy of the invitation and recent notes for each meeting.

Oldnotes
To retrieve old notes in a meeting using the mail interface, send a note to
mailrequests@ecunet.org with the command 'oldnotes' (without the quotes) in
the subject line of your message.  In the body of the message, type the name
of the meeting followed by a comma and the range of notes you would like to
receive.  A range of notes may look like 10-20, -20, 84 or 100-.  To request
old notes from multiple meetings please put each request on a separate line.

Example:
ecunet, 10-20
bulletins, 100
ecunet chat, -20

This example would send you notes 10-20 in the meeting ECUNET, note 100 in
BULLETINS, and the most recent 20 notes in ECUNET CHAT.
