A litany of appreciation for Ecunet.org

“A time to be born, and a time to die,” Qoheleth says.[1]

A time to die, and a time to be raised anew, Jesus showed us.

When the new comes, the old passes away, declares Paul[2] and John[3].

We remember the past with thanksgiving, and look to the future with hope.

God spoke in a bush, with lightning and thunder, and a still small voice.

God used a star and scriptures to guide magi.

God came through media the people understood.

"Does God understand computers and the Internet?" a child asked.

We remember the past with thanksgiving, and look to the future with hope.

There was bizlink, convene, telnet, then e-mails and web-browsers.

Telephone lines were replaced by Ethernet cables and then wifi and 3G.

There was "old" ecunet, which is no more; but "new" ecunet has arisen.

There was our own servers; now there is Google groups.

We remember the past with thanksgiving, and look to the future with hope.

We rejoiced when seeing faces that went with oft-seen screen names.

We wondered when we no longer saw those screen names.

Friendships were created. Communities, not just "meetings," were formed.

We discussed, joked, argued, and supported each other in cyber-space.

Frustrations arose when ecunet didn't always work as it used to.

Out of the brokenness of what was, something new and better has arisen.

We remember the past with thanksgiving, and look to the future with hope.

We give thanks for and ask God's blessing on all who made Ecunet possible

and for those who will contribute to its mission in the future.

Amen.
